COACHES VERDICT: Our last game of the season and everyone seemed quite happy to be playing the newly crowned league winners. Alveston may have thought that they would walk away with the points like they had when we had previously played them (first with nine players and then the bear eleven). This time we were much more switched on and stronger. Nil - Nil at half time and we had matched them throughout the game. We did go behind when we failed to pick up the runner from the corner. What I admired about the team today is the gritty determination they showed. Everyone showed a little more steel in their tackles and effort. Ollie Benn was again magnificent making a couple of superb saves, but the players in front of him also played well and reduced the usual Alveston shooting. We got a deserved equaliser when Kieran reacted quickest from a to slot the ball home at the second attempt. A draw was about the fair result and we became only the third side to take points off of them this season. Possibly the best compliment that can be paid is that we had heard that Alveston were due to play in different positions because they had won the league, the fact that that they didn-t hopefully proved that they didn-t take us lightly in the end.
So that is the end of a long, long hard season, with ups and downs along the way. This has certainly been our toughest season so far, we will wait to see if we are relegated but the last few games proved to me that you are a great bunch of lads and can play good attractive football. Whatever league we are in next year I am very confident that we will improve again. There is no doubt in my mind that having Ollie and Alex join in the new year helped but those that have been here all season have also contributed along the way. I hope to see you next season when I am sure we will have more reward for the efforts. Choosing player of the season will not be easy.
Heads up, keep smiling - see you soon
